The Birthday Kids...

I corralled the kids after meeting this morning to get their 18 year old pictures!!!  Hard to believe they're turning 18 on Thursday, and we'll be gone for their birthday, but I wanted to catch them today while they were in their meeting clothes...(Daniel had already taken his tie off and I wasn't getting it back on) ha.  Daniel's shirt and vest are from Zane & Anna for his birthday.  Anyways, this post is early, but we'll be gone so I wanted to get it up before our company comes tomorrow and Tuesday, then we leave for the Oregon Coast!  Yay!  Family Reunion Time! :)

Showing your Age...........

My friend, Jenette sent these to me...they are of me at 16 or 17 years old and the bottom one is of her and I at 17, I believe.   My, how times change...just put 35 years onto yourself  and take it for a "test ride"...ha ha

My 52nd Birthday....

The pictures above are the flowers Tom got for me for my birthday.  They're so pretty!
Also, he took me to Krystal's restaurant in town and we had the sauteed shrimp and cod.  It came with a dinner salad, chowder and homemade rolls. (oops, I started to eat my food before I realized I hadn't gotten a picture yet...sorry).   Yes, I/we porked and enjoyed every minute of it.  The picture below is after Bible Study last night, they surprised me with this cake, ice-cream and coffee.  Everyone knew but me.  Made me feel special.  (And I didn't even have time to clean house after the storm and my two doctor appointments.  Oh well, glad it wasn't too bad!) ha

Storm of the Decade October 20, 2010

Had to get a picture of Jose' in our backyard today...I noticed he was tipped over...looked like maybe he had too much too drink, but his friend Bob the Burro was holding him up...but not to confuse you, Jose' doesn't drink...the storm just blew him over...poor fellow...he's sitting upright now right where he belongs!

Yesterday was the BIGGEST storm we have ever seen here.  The beginning pictures are during the storm from our house and BESIDE our house...the wash which is normally DRY as a bone...but as you can see it turned into a raging river with rapids!!!!  It was the most amazing thing.  Thats what they say about flash flooding here in the desert.  You honestly can't imagine that it could happen here because it is so absolutely dry here most of the year...but yesterday this came so suddenly.  Glad Tom and I had gotten home a little earlier so we could be home to experience this and not get washed away IN it.  I was late for my doctor appointment, but we were stuck here because all the washes were overflowing as you can see and you are not ever, ever supposed to cross these while they are raging...and raging they were!!!  The lower pictures are of the aftermath that Tom and I went out in the Razor to check out the damage of the storm.  Wow!

Braggin' 'Bout m'Boy!

The pictures above are from last Friday (October 15th) and a food critic has been into Denny's on several occasions and had talked to Daniel several times and wanted to 'hang out' etc.  He told Daniel that Daniel had served him 14 different times but Daniel only knew about 3 of those times.  Saying that he comes in different disguises to see what kind of service he was getting at Denneys.  Fast forward to last Friday and this man told Daniel that some people would be coming into the restaurant from Bon Appetit Magazine (some of this man's friends) and that Daniel would be serving them.  They did on two different meals that afternoon and evening.  Daniel DID NOT KNOW WHO HE WAS SERVING!  (By the way, the Bon Appetit people came to town and would be eating at 3 restaurants in town...and Denneys was NOT one of their choices but this food critic convinced them to come to Denney's and have Daniel serve them).  As a result, he was given this certificate above, along with a signed magazine by Barbara Fairchild, Editor in Chief of the Magazine (you can see the pictures above) PLUS a hand written letter which Daniel did NOT want me to include here because it had their names on it...but on that personal letter some of it included this:  "We went to Denneys as two couples at two different times...etc., during this time we had Daniel.  We were welcomed when we were served..."  "we were greeted with a smile.  We had a nice meal, being a company menu not bad, so....
Pro's:  *smile/warm welcome    CONS:  Took male order first
* quick service                                        carried tray low :(
*our plates never touched                        should hand check to male
*Our drinks always full                           (we notice he was unsure about carrying the tray)
*always happy
*nice goodbye
(Daniel acknowledged that he is working on the tray thing because it can't touch your shoulder).
"We would love to come back again!  Daniel would make a great server in a 3 or 4 star restaurant and maybe a 5 star with some training!  We can't wait to see and hear where he goes in the future!!!

Signed by the Editor in Chief of Bon Appetit, plus the Food & Wine expert
Also, by another Editor (E.D.F. of Bon Appetit)  and also the Maitre D.

I left out their names for Daniel's sake.

Then the next day...this man above came into the restaurant and Daniel was serving
him and they started talking and he said he is visiting LHC with his dad but is from
Seattle...he said he is a country singer and he is buddies with Willie Nelson and
Bill Gates dad.  (He said you can find his music on my space or U-tube) I can't
remember.

PROGRESS with POSES...

I have learned that every YOGA pose has a name
that is related or connected to something in nature.
Usually an animal name or a name in nature.  I don't
remember all the names to the poses I've learned, but
these are ones we've done lately.  3 hour and a half
classes a week...really helps with the flexibility.  I am
amazed to be able to do things I did as a teenager.
Thats not saying a whole lot, but I actually feel better
with the added flexibility I've gotten since adding Yoga
to my schedule.  It's been a good addition!
 Nose to knees
 Nose to Toes!
Some sort of butterfly in the air pose!
Just did this pose today and already
can't remember the name...
Up and Over to touch the toes to the floor.
I think this is the balancing tree pose.
 And another balancing pose.
Try it...its easy to go t.i.m.b.e.r.r.r.r.r (ha)
 The flying half-moon, I think.
 Recently conquered the head-stand.
No small feat for a nearly 52 year old!
Nose to Knees Stretch.  It wasn't
that long ago that I couldn't do this
(reach the knees, that is!)
Head to Floor with straight legs.
Name?  Tell me if you know.
Another stretch and balance we did today.
Don't know the name of this one either.
Yes, I know, I wouldn't make a very good
teacher.  Sorry.
 The infamous "PLANK"
We don't have to hold this too long, however, in
an aerobic class I take once a week, she makes us
hold the plank for it seems a LONG time!
"Silliness Pose"....Malia (she was my photographer)
 kept making me laugh and
so I finally just rolled over and we laughed and laughed.
And she caught me in the "act"....
Nose to Knees...A great stretch for your
legs.  Our yoga instructor, Marlo, said that you
NEVER perfect poses but that it's something that
you continually work on and work on and progress.
But she said, you can't ever feel like, well I have this
one perfect because it will never happen, its just
progressing.
