Trip To Show Low, AZ This Past Week

Derek & his new roommate, Dwight.  They actually resemble each other except Dwight has glasses.

We had lunch at Waldo's BBQ in Show Low.  There is one in
Havasu also, but the owner actually runs the Waldo's in Show Low!

The new store is now open as of Monday, but the grand opening is April 1st.  Derek has been working for two weeks helping get it ready.

Daniel at Work and Derek Moves to Show Low, AZ

Daniel absolutely hates his picture taken especially at work!  So he wouldn't open his eyes as he served us our meals the night before Derek moved! (It's especially embarrassing when its his mother doing the picture taking!)
Derek & his girlfriend Taylor.
Derek packed and ready to move to Show Low.  His Suburban was full.  Things shifted around some on his quad trailer and along the way someone flagged him down to tell him that his bicycle was about ready to fall off the back of the trailer!!!!  Glad he made it safe and no disaster ensued! :)

New Area Rug in our living room...

We have had this area rug in our living room for 6 years now, I was ready for a change and I thought it
would work great in our all-tile bedroom.  I really like it in there (below).  I'll add a couple of pix of the new area rug we got for the living room.  No Flowers...I was ready for a change!

Whirls and Swirls.  I had picked-out 5 different area rugs (or narrowed it down to 5) and asked Tom and Daniel (separately) which one they liked the best....and this 8 X 11 one won out! :)

The West Bedroom Re-do I have "dubbed" the 'Burgundy Room'...

BEFORE PIX:  I swapped chairs and bedside tables and lamps between the two rooms...This was Daniel's room...now a guest room!

AFTER PIX...Anna gave me the Matelasse Bedspread, which I love...it's so pretty in 'real life'...I found the shams to tie it together, and I'm loving our new Kirkland's Store in Havasu...it's quickly becoming one of my favorites!  I got the picture, lamps, clock, the iron thingy above the sliding glass door as well as the night light.  They have decent prices and I love their style!

East Bedroom Re-do...BEFORE!!!

Above are before pictures of the "Beach" room re-do.  However, I forgot to take a before picture of the white wall behind the bed.  Other than that (I had already painted the wall a sandy taupe color) and forgot to get a picture before I painted that wall.  All the STUFF was Derek's getting ready to move to Show Low, AZ.  So the room looks like a disaster...normally Derek is a "neat-nik" like myself...and normally his room is pretty clean...until the last week before he moved out!
"AFTER" Pictures...
This Chair I found on-line...for the desk!
The twin bed as well as a Full-sized in the bedroom.

Before's and After's of my bedside table...

The three pictures above are "Before" pictures of the nightstand with the first coat of finish remover.  You paint it on and scrape it off...kind of a gooey, messy procedure, however, I was out on the back patio so it was fine.
Step 2 is "whitewashing the pieces with a watered-down off white paint.  Once it is dry, then you sand the edges of the top and drawers to give it an 'older' look, with a fine grit sandpaper.
Step 3 is another coat of whitewash and once it is dry then you do a little more sanding.  I used some of the brown furniture oil that you get to "hide scratches" and wiped that over the surfaces to give it an "older look".   Once that is dry,  Step 4 you spray paint a couple of coats of clear polyurethane to protect the finish and keep it from yellowing.
Step 5 is the FINISHED PRODUCT.  I'm please with it! :)

Furniture I loved at a boutique in Florida...

I loved the look of this furniture in a little gift store Anna took me into in Florida (Flagler Beach), so when it came to refinishing a bedside table for my "beachy" bedroom, I tried to "copy" the look without much direction but just figuring out how it was possibly done.  I'm super pleased with how it turned out...as you will see in a bit!  I first took a picture of the night stand and then took pictures of the Stages of redoing it.  I just kept working with it til I got the look I wanted, however, I'm always anxious to get something done right away so it took me just a couple days...just waiting hours between coats! ha ha
